Staying to the end of the night.

It’s not often that I stay at a wedding until the bride and groom leave. At most weddings I photograph, I’m shooting until just after the first dance, and then, with about twelve hours fatigue in my legs and three very precious memory cards in my pocket, I head homeward.

This wedding was different. I was photographing in Cardiff, so home was the length of the M4 away, which meant I was staying at a hotel nearby. Usually the end of the night is full of celebration, and most of the shots to be had are on the dance floor. However, having stepped out of the main room, I was party to this incredibly precious moment. The bride and groom were about to leave, but the bride’s mother came up to say goodbye to her eldest daughter, who’d helped her mum bring up her two sisters and little brother…
